Yialos Taverna, Coral Bay
Tony and I took my Mum to one of our favourite places in the world, yesterday – Yialos Taverna in Coral Bay. I know I talk about Yialos a lot but I will never be able to put into words what a special place it is. The location is perfect; the food great and the family who own and run it, Rena, Bambos, Valentina and George, simply epitomise everything that is great about Cypriots: great hearts, welcoming smiles and good, old fashioned service plus a sincere friendship too!
We sat in the late afternoon sunshine, just metres from the sea, watching the waves gently roll backwards and forwards when my Mum spotted something walking on the top of the rocks. I thought it must have been one of the many cats who live on the rocks and feed from the taverna – but it wasn’t: it was a herd of goats and their kids, who were out walking and enjoying the sea air. Rena told us that this pack were her friends and were definitely NOT on the menu!
The many tourists who were eating at Yialos, were enthralled by the site of these lovely creatures, meandering along the rocky terrain. Even the locals were smiling – and we see goats often here!
It was a truly lovely afternoon, shared in part with Susie F and The Great Raymondodoulou, who grabbed a few beers then scuttled off to pack for their anniversary trip….
Yialos Taverna should be on everyones holiday ‘wish list’ – and for we lucky locals, on our weekly ‘best place to go’ plan! (especially with this Saturdays ‘happy hour’ plan that Valentina has introduced!).
