The power to repair….

Cyprus had a terrible disaster on Monday morning this week, when a ship, stored in dry dock after having been “taken” on Cypriot waters, caught fire and blew up, killing 12 people and causing many injuries and much confusion. The blast happened next to the islands main power plant, taking out the electricity for the full island.

The Cypriot authority were amazing, getting power to the island within hours, albeit the power supply is limited and will continue to be so for the next few months. We cannot believe that the power was up and running so quickly – nor can we believe that some people here are being a little annoyed about the lack of fulltime power……

Luckily, most of the guests in the villas in Coral Bay and Peyia have been wonderful: totally understanding and very patient. There is nothing any of us can do other than stick with the situation and let the authorities do their best.

Really, the best thing we can do is to send our love and prayers to the bereaved families. A loss of a few hours power daily is nothing compared to the loss of a loved one…..

This is one of those times when we re-learn the real meaning of the word “heartfelt”: Cypriot people are there for each other . They teach us a lot, every day.
