The beat of the village
Late yesterday afternoon, as I was returning from welcoming guests to the beautiful apartment, Isis, I drove into the centre of the village of Peyia just as the bride who are getting married in the village church, arrived with her family.
You have to witness the wedding of a Cypriot couple here to understand but the whole of their families and friends, dress up to the nines, beep the horns of their cars and drive to the venue making as much noise as is possible, to ensure everyone knows there is a celebration happening.
Music blares from the church , people gather and wait outside to see the bride and the village centre is filled with happiness and chatter. Its impossible to get to Philippos supermarket during the service. The wedding guests just leave their cars wherever they can – and so they should: wants more important? The celebration or the shopping.
I had to park up yesterday and just watch . The bride look amazing. She was loving every moment of her special day and rightly so. I don’t know who she was but I could see the light of love, hope and happiness shining out of her and I pray she lives her ‘happy ever after’…..
With such a wonderful wedding day, shared by all of us, in various ways, I have a feeling she and her groom will!
……and Happy Mothers Day to mums everywhere – especially my own, my stepmum and my ‘other mother’ (Tonys gorgeous Mum). xxx
