“hidden treasure”, in Paphos – Sykaminia Cafe

The phrase, ‘not seeing the wood for the trees’, was absolutely the best description of what happened to us today. Tony and I ventured into Paphos, where we had to have digital photos taken by an official in the Municipality to enable us to be able to vote here.

Leaving the offices, which are next to the old Post Office and just around the corner from the market, I spotted a gorgeous , small pretty café with colourful chairs and ‘happy’ signs and pictures – so we stopped for a cuppa.

OMG I cannot believe it’s taken until now to meet Norma, the owner of Sykaminia Café and to simply sit and enjoy the beautiful oasis she has created on a quiet corner of the main road. Originally from Mexico, Norma was telling us she feels Cypriot as her heart, husband and children are here – but that she wanted Sykaminia to have the ‘mexican’ feel. So , with great use of colour and lovingly chosen items, (Checkout the owl sitting over the doorway), this special place is alive with happiness and friendship.

Under the shade of the sycamore tree , after which the café is named, I felt such a peace and contentment – and gratitude that such places exist. Then I discovered Norma hosts Flamenco and Tapas nights – and I’m hooked!

Please stop by and enjoy a snack or coffee here – or even sneak in a Mojito! Norma is growing her mint by the doorway, ready to make welcome cocktails.

I’m going to recommend Sykaminia Café to all of our friends and holiday guests. It’s at the top of the road, where the old M & S shop is in Paphos and just around the corner from the market. Perfect!
