Hats off…………..
I was just driving back home yesterday, having enjoyed doing checkins, in the lovely villa Maria in Coral Bay and Villa Sulis in Coral Bay, when I remembered the need to stop and get some birthday cards- before the days flew by and I’d missed the dates.
Partymania in Peyia, is a great card and gift shop and I love to call in there. With Easter cards and gifts everywhere, I had a pleasant potter around reading and looking and taking in the colours and words – then I was stopped in my tracks by a very special memory: There was an Easter card, in sepia, showing four older ladies each of whom had the most wonderful crepe paper Easter bonnets on their heads. Bonnets you wouldn’t wear unless for a bet – but the spitting image of the handmade creations my Nanna, my sister Maxine and I used to make every Easter, so we could wear them to parade through our home town of Hebburn! I stood in the shop and could feel the crepe paper in my fingers and remember how lovingly Nanna helped us curl and shape each flower. She also convinced Max and I that these bonnets were “the business” and that anyone laughing at us, was just jealous.
Creations complete, we’d walk through our town, heads in the air (which was difficult given the weight of the bonnets) and believe, thanks to our gorgeous Nanna, that we were IT!….
Precious memories of a wonderful lady who I only started to appreciate later in life, had the best sense of humour and most loving heart of anyone I’ve ever known.
Hats off to you Nanna: you are the best and I hope you have taught the Angels the art of Crepe!
