gathering winter fuel
As I was driving from home through the tiny streets of the traditional village houses, I watched an old lady gathering wood from the hillside and carrying it home for her fire. Got me thinking how hard ‘real’ life is here for the older Cypriots and how , despite the way the village of Peyia has developed and grown, some things have stayed the same.
This lady must have been in her late 70s but she seemed strong and happy as she went about her work. No winter fuel allowance for her but a very warm smile from her when she saw me watching.
Worth remembering how very lucky we are, isn’t it?
