Fish, chips, mushy peas, bread and butter, cup of tea…….

It’s a glorious September Saturday here in sunny Cyprus! Here in Peyia, just up the hill from the Coral Bay resort, where most of our holiday villas are situated, we’re enjoying a wonderful morning with light, warm breezes, cloudy skies and a welcome, cooler 32degrees! Its a gorgeous morning and September to December is definitely a great time to be here!

Friends often ask Tony and I what its like living in Cyprus: something about being here seems to suggest to them that life isn’t “normal” and we’re probably distanced from the day to day things that life brings. Whilst there are many, many benefits in being here, normal things happen – just check out the height of my ironing mountain to have that fact reinforced!

Another “normal” thing we have, which is a real “Saturday” thing, is that the football season has started – but we’ll view the matches in the comfort and charm of The Jail Pub, our local in Peyia village – then will probably meander down past Coral Bay and the holiday villas to Yiannis Fish and Chip Takeaway and treat ourselves to fish, chips, mushy peas, bread and butter, cup of tea! The difference is then that we’ll take these to banana bay, near some of the Porto Lara villas in Coral Bay and we’ll sit on the bench on the seafront and enjoy the takeaway – and the sight and noises of the sea crashing against the coastline.

So living here is the same as living most places in Europe – except we are surrounded by total beauty, with hills and coastlines wrapped around us; warm, friendly smiles from the villagers wherever we go – and one of Wilmslows best fish and chip men, who has recently returned to Kissonerga from UK – and opened up the best chippy we’ve ever used.

Heaven on earth! Happy Saturday!
