Day trip to remember
When you rent a villa in Coral Bay or Peyia, you are on the doorstep of some of the most beautiful places in the world. Driving for just under 1.45 hours, you can reach the village of Kakopetria: a stunning hillside old village with so much character and charm, I struggle to find the words to describe it (photo below). Its not just the village which is lovely, its the whole experience of the drive, from town to mountains, passing eg wineries (where its rude not to stop and sample!), deserted village, herds of goats, rolling/changing landscape and all the while getting higher and ‘closer to heaven’.
The views are amazing. As the road climbs, the trees change hue and style, lining the roadway in a ‘welcome’. The air is stunning and its a real ‘feel happy to be alive’ journey. Apple pie and icecream in Platres, leads to ‘hot nuts’ in Troodos then a gentle dip down to The Old Mill, in Kakopetria, where you can lunch or stay over. Bliss!
