Current buns and blessings
I love the village of Peyia and the old traditions which stil govern what is a very modern larger village now: take today, just up the road from villa LIly May, close to Carob Tree House, a large new bakery is opening its doors today.
When I say large, I mean, imagine something the size of a small furniture store or Next outlet on a retail park in the UK and you have the sort of scale of this new store. Positioned on the roadside into Peyia,, just down from the football stadium, the bakery offers absolutely everything to tempt your waistline to expand and your tongue to dance.
Tony visited today and bought freshly baked (on the premises), bread, curry pasty and cornish pasty…..for a snack!
Tonight, we drove past the bakery on the way to visit Mum in hospital and the “official opening” had begun: the priest was there to bless the proceedings and the Mayor was there to welcome the shoppers. Locals , who know the owners, brought plants and flowers – and the village contingent shook hands/tasted sweet and savoury produce and generally wished the owners of this new store, the best that business could bring!
What a lovely start to an exciting new project! I think the owners must have felt very proud to have been welcomed in such a manner – and my tummy has certainly given some of the bakerys goods, a seal of approval. Course, I’ll go again tomorrow just to test the rest of the range…….
I don’t enjoy eating: its my job to check things out for the holiday makers who stay in our villas!
