Clean and very green, Monday

It’s a bank holiday here in Cyprus, where , to celebrate the start of ‘Great Lent’, the Cypriots come together to celebrate leaving , ‘sinful attitudes and non-fasting foods’ behind. With solid roots in the Eastern Orthodox religions, this day is known by many names, from, Clean to Green Monday or Pure Monday.

Sadly, with the families all ready to picnic and go kite flying together, down at the coast, the heavens have decided to open and do their bit to ‘clean ‘ the air. We’ve had lashing rain , heavy winds and now, the most magnificent thunder storm has begun! After the hottest February on record and a scorching start to March, the rain is welcome – though it would have been better for the fun if it had held off till tomorrow!

Still, the island is ‘sparkling green’ and the air smells fresh and pure, so all is good! Like many of our neighbours, we’ve spent the day Spring Cleaning and getting rid of old bits of memorabilia and crap! Very therapeutic!

Now, I’m settling down to take bookings for some of the lovely holiday villas we look after here in Coral Bay and Peyia. Seems rather that , of the things some people are considering giving up for Lent, a holiday isn’t one of them!

If you’re thinking of coming to Cyprus this year, drop me an email and I’ll share great offers and available dates with you! Pure bargains in villas with clean pools! Lynn@cyprusvillas.uk.com.
