Butterflies
What a beautiful time of year this is. The sun is in the heavens, the meadows are filled with colour, donkeys are grazing and the air smells of blossom. It’s heavenly!
Another blessing is the sheer amount of butterflies which seem to have chosen the village to ”rest” in. The gardens are filled with these colourful, graceful, beings who are a pleasure to watch as they move from plant to plant, seemingly with such abandon, they seem to be dancing.
Last night, when I got home from work, I sat on The Thinking Step for a while, talking on the telephone to my Mum. I was telling her that I’d just said, ”hello”’ to the stone butterfly which watches over the resting place of our precious Molly dog, when a gorgeous butterfly flew past me and landed next to my arm. “Hello Molly”, I said to the butterfly – and it came and sat on my hand, staying there for a while before dancing away then returning to sit back on my arm as I talked to Mum.
Winnie the Pooh and Piglet discussed that to be a butterfly, you have to give up being a caterpillar. So, if the essence of our tiny doggy is now flying happily in the gentle breezes of our garden, I’m at peace – and pray Molly is.
