Being a tourist…
Anyone who reads this blog knows how much I love living here in Peyia. Sometimes, however, living here on the island of Cyprus simply overwhelms me! Let me explain…
This past week, we’ve had four friends staying with us in our home on the hillside. Great, grown-up people who live in paradise in a beautiful village in Yorkshire, kindly flew over to Cyprus to spend some time with us. I’ll admit I was a little nervous about the weather because it’s November and a seemingly guaranteed hot sunny day, can suddenly turn into a cloudy though warm afternoon but I quickly relaxed when I realised that they’d simply come to spend time with us and anything was fine!
We’ve been tourists! I’ve loved it! We’ve experienced Tony and my much-loved tavernas in Peyia, ie Geitonia and Michaels (Peyia Tavern), enjoyed sundowners at Yialos taverna in Coral Bay, sat and marvelled at the peace in St Georges Harbour and simply chilled at home, watching the comings and goings on the hillside!
Unusual for Tony and I, we’ve ventured into Coral Bay a few times, been to Chic Chox for breakfast, Seriani for dinner then tried Santa Marina for another breakfast too. All great, good food and excellent service!
Paphos harbour had the pleasure of our footsteps as we strutted to a coffee shop – and the newly refurbished centre of Paphos was a delight, not least popping into Kiniras Hotel to sit in the courtyard and share a coffee!
Sometimes, I forget what’s on the doorstep: how many choices there are for holidaymakers in terms of great food/interesting places and wonderful characters who welcome people warmly. I’ve had a great holiday and I hope Tony and our friends have too.
For many years, we travelled far and wide and now, my journeys are every bit as special but they are local to our Peyia home. And that’s more than alright by me!
Go on! Plan a holiday here with us in Peyia or Coral Bay. You”ll be very happily surprised by what’s on offer!
