Eat your heart out
One of the best kept secrets of the beautiful area of Coral Bay in Cyprus, is the amazing selection of wonderful restaurants, high class tavernas, and smaller homestyle family run cafes.
Those on holiday get the best of everything when it comes to their choice of eating out (or in) whilst staying in their villa holiday homes in the Coral Bay region.
Whilst it is hard to choose which restaurants to recommend- here's five of the best to tempt even the most discerning pallet! (Taking into account the atmosphere , value for money and sheer breadth of menu available).
Zaffron: Posh nosh! Where east meets the Med! Owned by an Indian man and Cypriot lady, this wonderful restaurant is a solace for the sunshine – and any stresses you may have. Tastefully and elegantly furnished with the light touch of the Far East, visible in paintings and interior design, Zaffron is one of the best in the Coral Bay region. From steak to fish to pizza and pastas to Indian cuisine, there is something for everyone in this environment of elegance and relaxation.
Yialos: Traditional Cypriot Hospitality in Coral Bay with a sea front location is number two on the list! A traditional BBQ style lover's dream! This great eatery is simple (well, a shack actually) but offers tasty mezes and BBQ style food for next to nothing. For lunch or traditional Cypriot evenings, the welcome is warm and the beer is chilled. A very memorable place to return to time and time again.
Meze meze: Goat shed turned pretty restaurant, Kathikas! Definitely the place to come to for a real local Cypriot meze: no menu here but plenty of choice and taste experience as over 22 small dishes are served to your table. From vegetables to unusual potato dishes, stuffed vine leaves to beef stifado, an adventure in Cypriot food is offered- for only 8 cypounds per head… unbeatable!
Neptune Restaurant: The heart of Coral Bay resort, upmarket and welcoming. Owned and chef'd by Stavros and his wife Skevi, Neptune hides in the apartment complex also run by the lovely Cypriot couple. The menu is expansive, covering a wide variety of styles of dishes as well as the mainstream Cypriot and English favorites. From a range of unusual starters (try the Camembert in curry or raspberry sauce) to delectable desserts, the Neptune is a "must do" food experience. Popular with locals and those on holiday (booking is essential).
Chic Chocs Café: Located at the Coral Bay main resort. Relax and people watch in this lovely street front café and be tempted by a menu of real comfort food and dessert dishes! Enjoy tuna pita bread with a Cypriot salad followed by Chic Chocs special ice cream sundae – or simply take a coffee and enjoy the atmosphere of the Coral Bay resort itself as you sit back and are looked after by Kyri, Louise, and their family. A great street café with real character and warm welcome.
