It’s a great question, isn’t it? Not least as they are so many lovely places in the world – and people like so many different things but I think yesterday summed up for me, just a few of the great reasons why Tony and I love Cyprus so much…
Sunday, 6th December 2015 and we woke up to clear blue skies, temperatures of up to 22 degrees daytime and air that was a pure pleasure to breath in. Sitting taking coffee on The Thinking Step, taking in the view of the village of Peyia, down to the coastline from Paphos to St Georges, the sun was glistening on the seas and looked magical.
We then walked the dogs up the hillside, marvelling at the expanse of hills, rolling up and out towards the Kathikas area and hiding many little villages in their swell. This area reminds me of the Lake District with many shades of green/types of trees and pretty shrubbery. (Though there are no lakes!).
Coming home, the sun was in the heavens so I spent a couple of hours reading in the sunshine and soaking up the rays before the sun started to set and the magical red skies filled the horizon, swallowing up a very peaceful day into their colourful rays. The sea changed colour in the evening light and the lights twinkled across the Peyia region….. beautiful!
Though there is a choice of excellent and cheap, tavernas on our doorstep in the village of Peyia, Tony and I are home birds so settled in for an evening meal, watching a movie in front of the fire! (well, the temperature had dropped to 10 degrees!).
With the Christmas lights now decorating the many roads and roundabouts now, Cyprus is preparing for a peaceful and happy Christmas time; simply and quietly – and that’s another reason why we love this island so much!
