So Christmas Day has come and gone – and I hope it’s been a great one, however you’ve spent it.
Cyprus has enjoyed constant sunshine: today , it’s 20 degrees and lovely. I’ll be dragging Tony and the furries for a long walk when it cools down a little!
The days between Christmas and New Year, are very quiet here. Families are gathered in the many Cypriot village houses and there is a loud , ”drone” of unfathomable conversation coming from the generations all talking at once while the grandparents have their TVs on high, so they can hear! More Cypriots than expats, fill the village of Peyia and are seen walking around, marveling at the changes in the village and loving the views. Many will have travelled from Nicosia or Limassol, where they will have work but it’s obvious how much they miss the character and stunning location of their home village.
For us, the days are a mix of answering email enquiries for holiday bookings in 2018; walking on the coast or in the hills and just slowing down a little to feel the peace in the air and to take stock of what’s to come.
It’s a lovely day and it’s great to be alive and here in Peyia. My thoughts are with our families and friends and we miss being with them all – though I suspect they’d all love to be here rather than have us travel to them! Maybe next Christmas!
Wishing you all a happy, healthy and peaceful time – and hearts filled with sunshine!
