Last night, we had a great evening celebrating Andys birthday and ate in a ‘posh’ restaurant in Coral Bay. The company was fantastic- the food, okay and a little on the pricey side. I suspect that, in the past 10 days, we’ve been spoiled: we’ve been out to our favourite local tavernas, where the food is always great, though a little more basic than last nights – and the owners are wonderful, ‘real’ Cypriot people who value the business you give to them.
From Geitonia, in our village of Peyia, where the meze is only 9 euros and seems to get bigger and bigger, to Peyia Tavern, where Michael is so happy that he is going to be a Grandad for the first time, that plates are piled even higher than they used to be, to sundowners at Yialos on the rocks in Coral Bay, we’ve dined happily and frugally – and perhaps have forgotten how a gorgeous environment, can increase the prices – and an erect carrot or two, can add on the euros!
Still, the ‘posh’ places in Coral Bay are good: there are so many to choose from and I totally understand that holiday makers want to feel spoiled and cared for, so the staff who do this with panache , are invaluable.
Maybe I’m just basic but I’d swop the ‘posh’ for the warmth of a hug from the owner on arrival and the comfort of knowing everything is made with heart and love – and the wine is cheap!!
If you want a holiday where you can eat well, with food from so many differents menus, come to stay in Peyia or Coral Bay. The villas ARE posh – but at real value for money prices. For availability, email to firstname.lastname@example.org
